Guest lecture on supporting learning about climate futures, INVEST Fellow Rae Ostman (ASU)
Time
21.8.2023 at 15.00 - 16.00
RAE OSTMAN from the Center for Innovation in Informal STEM Learning (CIISL) at Arizona State University will discuss the development process and research findings for two projects designed to support learning about climate change and solutions for positive futures.
THE RENEWAL: ARIDIUM 2175 is an extended reality (XR) game being developed through a program that positions young people as community science leaders who engage local communities in exploring and co-creating solutions to local impacts of climate change. Using the Unreal game engine, participating youth leaders are creating a digital narrative designed to immerse players in exploring plausible climate futures and identifying preferred pathways forward.
MISSION FUTURE: ARIZONA is a 2,500-square-foot interactive exhibition developed in collaboration with Arizona Science Center, NASA, and numerous additional partners. Inspired by the exhibition Seven Siblings from the Future at Heureka, The Finnish Science Centre, the exhibition integrates authentic Earth and space science, imaginative storytelling, an immersive environment, and hands-on activities to explore what Arizona might be like in the year 2045. Both projects include research and evaluation that examines the relationship of the experience design to participant learning, including outcomes such as science identity, agency, and content knowledge.
The lecture will be presented in English.
