16.9.–20.9. Critical Conversations about the Emerging Challenges in Education

Driven largely by new technologies, the world is experiencing wide-ranging social, economic, and political transformations. The speed, intensity and reach of changes are unprecedented, affecting most aspects of our lives, including education. In education, major challenges have emerged at the level not only of policy and governance but also with learning, teaching, and assessment. In this series of seminars, Visiting Professor Fazal Rizvi will hold critical conversations with a range of scholars at the University of Turku, focusing on such issues as the changing nature of work, artificial intelligence, environmental crisis, shifting youth cultures and populism and their challenges for educational policy and practice, and the ways in which we might address them.

You are invited to these public seminars to engage with the conversations, at which ample opportunity will be provided for inputs from the audience.

Professor Rizvi has been a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Turku over the past five years. He is an Emeritus Professor in Education at the University of Melbourne in Australia and Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the United States.  He has written extensively on globalisation and education policy, identity and culture in transnational contexts, internationalisation of higher education, and social transformations in Education.
