The national main event of the European Day of Languages was organised in the Hansa shopping centre, Turku, on 25 September. In the event, pupils had a chance to speak different languages at the language café, try out audiovisual translation, and learn languages through movement and active learning methods. The European Day of Languages also offered music and discussions on the importance of language skills.
Archaeological research often focuses on broad geographical areas, time periods, or big data. In wide generalisations, nuances and details are lost. Ulla Moilanen studied Medieval (c. 900 – 1400 AD) inhumation graves in Finland and found out that the period was more diverse than previously thought.

Groundbreaking research has managed to circumvent previous challenges in finding out how microalgae adapt to global warming by studying up to 60-year-old microalgae cells from the Archipelago Sea. Some microalgae form resting cells that sink to the seabed after blooming is over. Researchers have now managed to awaken these dormant cells from sediment cores with different chronological layers that can be dated by geological methods.
Landscape Studies researches places, landscape and their change from a cultural point of view, combining a humanistic approach with the theory and methods of other disciplines focused on studying the environment. The methods may entail interviews, Public Participation GIS, historical study, visual analysis or participatory observation.

The European Commission has officially established Euro-BioImaging – which provides life scientists with open access to a broad range of technologies and resources in biological and biomedical imaging – as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). Imaging technologies have a central role in driving fundamental research and applied innovations in both biological and biomedical research.
Doctoral Candidate in Nursing Science Christina Athanasopoulou loves Finland and Turku and wants to kindle the same enthusiasm in others. To do this, she has started a video blog in YouTube called Tina Turku.
Remote teaching and studying continue at the University of Turku also throughout the spring semester 2021 to ensure safety. Contact teaching for small groups and guidance and counselling can also be organised as a hybrid model.
