Biography
Received his DDS from Gazi University, Turkey in 1998 and accomplished his PhD in periodontology in Cumhuriyet University, Turkey in 2004. Started his post-doctoral training in University of Helsinki, Finland and National Public Health Institute, Helsinki, Finland in 2005. In 2009, appointed as university teacher at the Institute of Dentistry, University of Turku, Finland. Received his associate professorship at the same university in 2010 and his lecturer position in 2012, and promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2018. Serving as the past-president of Scandinavian Society of Periodontology (http://www.scsp.info) and the secretary general of the Scandinavian Division (NOF) of the International Association for Dental Research (http://www.iadr-nof.com/).

Research
Main research interests are oral biofilm-host cell interactions and analyses of salivary components in diagnosis of periodontitis. Currently supervising five PhD students and has over 120 scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
