Whistleblowing: Report Suspected Violations
If a University employee or a person otherwise involved with the University due to their duties has become aware of illegal activity in the course of or in connection with their work and suspects violations or misconduct, we want to know about it. In cases that fall within the scope of the Whistleblower Protection Act (Act on the Protection of Persons Reporting Violations of European Union and National Law 1171/2022), the matter can be reported through the Whistleblowing Channel.
The Whistleblowing Channel allows you to safely and confidentially report suspected illegal activity, misconduct or abuse related to the University's activities, as identified below. The identity of the reporting person, or whistleblower, using the Whistleblowing Channel is strongly protected throughout the reporting process. However, a general requirement for whistleblower protection is that the whistleblower has reasonable grounds to believe that the information about the violation is accurate at the time of reporting, and that such information falls within the scope of the law. If you are not sure whether your allegation of violation relates to the University or another organisation, you can report it through the Chancellor of Justice's central reporting channel.
The Whistleblower Protection Act is designed to ensure that a person, who in the course of their work, notices or suspects actions violating public interest in specified areas of EU law can report the matter safely and under legal protection without fear of possible sanctions or negative consequences.
Reports are handled only by designated, independent persons who have a duty of confidentiality and, as representatives of the University, a duty to protect the whistleblower. The subjects for which you can report suspected (University) violations through this channel are:
-
public procurement (except defence and security procurement);
-
financial services, products and markets;
-
preventing money laundering and terrorist financing;
-
product safety and compliance;
-
road safety;
-
environmental protection;
-
radiation and nuclear safety;
-
food and feed safety and animal health and welfare;
-
Public health within the meaning of Article 168 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union;
-
consumer protection;
-
protection of privacy and personal data; and
-
security of network and information systems.
All reporting must be made in good faith. The Whistleblowing Channel is not intended for the submission of customer/supplier feedback, for example, in relation to billing or contractual terms and conditions, and such customer/supplier feedback will not be investigated. Intentional misreporting is prohibited and may lead to legal sanctions.
